Shavkat Mirziyoyev, born on July 24, 1957, in Zaamin District of Jizzakh Region, hails from a family of doctors. A proud Uzbek with a background in mechanical engineering, Mirziyoyev earned his degree from the Tashkent Institute of Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture in 1981. His academic journey continued as he obtained a Ph.D. in Technical Sciences, eventually becoming an Associate Professor.

Academic and Professional Ascendancy

Mirziyoyev commenced his career in 1981 at the Tashkent Institute, holding various positions from junior research fellow to vice rector for academic affairs. In 1990, he entered politics, becoming a deputy in the Supreme Council and later serving as Chairman of the Credentials Committee.

Regional Leadership and Legislative Contributions

His administrative prowess became evident when Mirziyoyev assumed the role of khokim (governor) of Mirzo Ulugbek District in 1992. Over the years, he contributed significantly as khokim in various regions, leaving a lasting impact on socio-economic development. Concurrently, as a deputy of the Oliy Majlis from 1995 to 2003, Mirziyoyev played a vital role in crafting essential legislative acts.

In 2003, Shavkat Mirziyoyev was appointed as the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, a position he held with reapproval in 2005, 2010, and 2015. His dynamic leadership catalyzed widespread socio-economic reforms, modernization projects, and the promotion of private enterprise.

Presidential Journey

Mirziyoyev’s journey culminated in his temporary assignment as the President of Uzbekistan in 2016. Subsequently, he officially assumed the presidency on December 14, 2016, after securing a remarkable 88.61 percent of the vote in the presidential elections held on December 4, 2016.
